Additional Information for Patio Door Blinds

Covering the doors of your home can be complicated. You’ve realized you need window treatments for doors, but you might not even know what’s available or what considerations are the most important. Let’s explore some of the most frequently asked questions about covering doors

What are considered the best door window treatments?

When you need to cover glass doors, you’ll have a wide selection of both vertical and horizontal blinds for doors, including custom shutters, roman shades, roller shades, sheer shades & honeycomb shades. Vertical blinds have always been a favorite choice in sliding door window treatments, but clients choose vertical shades, shutters and drapery even more with today’s product offerings. These match the sliding movement of the doors. Even when doors open vertically, they can feature horizontal shades, similar to when it comes to covering doors with glass panes, like patio or french doors. In both doors that swing open or slide sideways, horizontal blinds and shades are popular.

How do door coverings attach?

Similar to the way window shades and blinds attach to windows, they are mounted. But, this can depend greatly on the make of the door. Sliding door window treatments typically hang from above the window, from a track or other hardware. Horizontal blinds for doors often attach above the glass window part of the door. When there is too small of an area for hardware installation, our TrackGlide operating system can adhere to the window frame of the door instead of hardware installation.

What are popular door window treatment features?

Just because you want patio door blinds doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have all the bells and whistles like you see for window coverings. Many of our window treatments for sliding glass doors, patio and french doors can be equipped with automation, cordless design, top down bottom up, energy efficiency, dual functioning shades and room darkening–to name a few.

Do the door coverings have to match the window shades?

Sliding door window treatments should coordinate with surrounding decor, but they do not need to match. Many clients find that they do have a personal preference when they see things paired together. We like to show you both options–sliding door blinds that match the window blinds AND door coverings with similar fabrics and colors. From there, you can decide which look fits your home’s style the best.

What about the door handles?

Door handles are just one of the unique features of doors that can interrupt the way your home functions when it comes to door coverings. This is one of the reasons it can be very helpful to work with a window covering specialist. The smallest details often create the biggest challenges. Our designers can show you how we account for the door knob or handle, and based on your door’s unique layout, what we would recommend that would work best. There are a number of options available for covering doors without disabling the function of the door itself.

How can we see patio door window treatments in person?

We have three local window treatment showrooms for you to browse sliding door blinds, shades, shutters and drapery. Full-size displays of these patio door coverings will allow you to operate them, notice how the light interacts with the fabrics and ask questions. Our knowledgable staff can show you the latest innovations and introduce you to all of your options. Need more sliding door blind ideas?
