Fabric Drapes
When it comes to choosing curtains and drapes in Denver, both the style and the function of the room are key factors. Blackout curtains work well as bedroom drapery, ensuring a good night of sleep. Custom drapes will be created with heavy fabrics that can block the light, or we can opt for a lined fabric. Similarly, when you need thermal drapes in certain rooms, you want drapery fabric that looks beautiful, but also protects your interiors from heating up. Our window treatment specialists will help determine the proper weight of the fabrics needed to maintain temperatures. We have access to thousands of fabrics, including silks, jacquard, velvet and linen for the perfect Denver curtains.
The Details of Custom Curtains
When it comes to designing custom drapes, your selections can make all the difference. From the drapery hardware choices, to the header style finishings, many details focus on the top of the window treatments.
Drapery Hardware
Often styled to coordinate with other design elements within your home, drapery hardware comes in a variety of metals and decorative elements. Some of the metal finishes for the curtain rods and other hardware include:
- Gold
- Matte Black
- Natural Brass
- Oil-rubbed Bronze
- Brushed Nickel
In addition to the curtain rod, the other hardware is used to dress your windows and ensure that they attach and move properly. Tie backs can be added in place, alongside the window, to hold the draperies away from the window when necessary. Curtain rings, drapery clips and grommet eyelets are used to hang custom curtains–these selections are dependent on the header style you select for your drapes.
At the Top of the Drapes
When you browse through photos of custom curtains, you’ll probably notice how the finished look at the top of the curtains can vary. This is a great way to customize the look of your curtains and drapes. This is called the header style, and it refers to how drapery fabrics are sewn. We have a few choices that are the most popular…
- Pinch Pleat Curtains feature flat folds of fabrics, sewn together in multiple layers. The name identifies how the fabrics appear to be pinched together before they’re sewn. Pinch pleat curtains boast an air of sophistication and elegance. They are hung from the drapery rod with clips or rings.
- Grommet Eyelets are a very common header style–capable of being formal or casual, depending on the type of drapery fabric used. They consist of large metal eyelets affixed into the fabric, with the middle of the eyelet open for the curtain rod to slide through. It’s common for the grommet metal to coordinate with the metal of the curtain rod.
- Ripplefold Drapes feature curved loops of fabric that stay consistent across the top of the drapes. These ripples are attached with specialty hardware that adjusts sideways, along a custom track. The movement is smooth and luxurious. The look of ripplefold drapes is quite similar to our Hunter Douglas Luminette collection.
Layering Window Treatments
Layering custom drapes with window shades is a popular style statement. But it not only looks beautiful, it’s also a great way to enhance the light control, privacy and energy savings within your home. Denver Curtains can layer with blinds, shades and even shutters. The drapery panels can stay at the sides of the window to frame the look, while the base layer of blinds can provide the functional benefits. Or, you can opt for full draperies that move when you need them to so you get double protection. When it comes to styling this look, our window covering designers love to work with clients, using drapery fabrics in textures, favorite colors and fun patterns to personalize the end result.
