CUSTOM DUAL SHADES FOR DENVER HOMES
Transform Your Home with Dual Shades
- Front Shade Filters Light
- Secondary Shade Blocks Light
- One Shared Headrail
The widest range of control, from light-filtering to room darkening, Duolite® is transforming homes–and lives–throughout the Denver area. Natural light enters, softened by one shade. Darkness replaces light when the secondary shade portion drops into place.
Available with three distinct product features, you choose the dual shade system that works best for you. From sheer shades that can suddenly provide room darkening, to woven woods that bring energy efficiency with a secondary cellular shade, you can have it all.

Dual Honeycomb Shades
A unique way of customizing the light control in your home, dual honeycomb shades feature two shade portions, joined together at the mid-section. One shade is light-filtering, or even translucent, designed to cut the glare and allow view-through. The other shade features room darkening fabrics, blocking light and the view. The entire window can be covered with cellular shades to provide thermal control, regardless of the light control. Cover the entire window with light-filtering; or block the entire window of light with room darkening. Adjust both into place to get a balance of some soft light and some blocked light. It’s entirely customizable.

Blackout Roller Shade
This is the most commonly featured type of dual window shades. Two different shades share one headrail. They operate independent of one another, so it’s easy to customize the look and feel of the space. The “front” shade is considered the designer portion of the window–beautiful fabrics with light-filtering opacity. The “back” shade is a blackout roller shade, meant to block out light when lowered in place behind the front shade. This type of dual roller shade system is available for Hunter Douglas Silhouette Shades, Woven Textured Roller Shades, Roller and Solar Shades and Roman Shades.

Secondary Honeycomb Shade
This concept is different than the standard dual honeycomb shade–it’s exclusive to the Provenance Woven Wood Shades collection. Our clients quickly fall in love with the natural fibers and unique woven textures of this shade collection. The way woven woods filter light into a room, and the visual interest they add to a space–it’s an incredible way to enhance the design. Now, with the option to have a secondary shade–a cellular shade–drop into place when you need to block the light and control the temperature, they have continued to be a top selection for Denver homeowners.

FAQ about Hunter Douglas Duolite Dual Shades
What are Duolite dual shades?
Dual shades offer two window shade opacities at one window, sharing one headrail. The word “duolite” is the Hunter Douglas proprietary name of this feature, and it can describe different set-ups depending on the product line. But the bottom line is two opacities, one headrail.
Honeycomb shades feature a unique dual shade system. Two shades of two different opacities, often one light filtering and one room darkening, are joined in the middle. The top of the two shades reaches the headrail, while the bottom of the other shade reaches the bottom on the window frame. Each portion can be opened enough to cover the entire window with one of the opacities, or they can both cover a percentage of, like half and half.
Roller shades, roman shades, sheer shades…these dual shade systems all have something in common. They have a secondary blackout roller shade that can be lowered into place when privacy or light blocking is needed. The front shade is the decorative, fabric shade that lets in light and views of the outdoors. Because the two shades operate independently of one another, they can be partially lowered, all the way lowered, or one could be lowered without the other.
Woven wood shades are another example of an exclusive dual shade system. The woven wood that lowers down, filters light and showcases beautiful design is the front shade. The secondary shade is a honeycomb shade, lowered into place when light control, privacy and energy efficiency is needed.
Can dual shades be motorized?
Yes, dual shades can be motorized. By choosing automation for this feature, you can easily access various levels of privacy, energy efficiency and light control all across the day with the touch of a button or on a schedule.
Which dual shades are energy efficient?
They are all energy savers, contributing to reduced utility costs, whether that’s reduced cooling bills or the ability to use glare-free natural light instead of artificial lighting. But, when it comes to insulation at the window–which can reduce energy usage all year long–the honeycomb shades are the clear winners. Both the dual shade system for honeycomb shades and the woven woods secondary honeycomb shade will offer incredible benefits.
Can I see dual shades in person in Denver?
Yes, we have a window treatment showroom in Cherry Creek. Our other local window treatment showrooms are located in Park Meadows and Wheat Ridge. Come and see for yourself why Denver homeowners are raving about their experience with the dual shades feature.
